Well-Being Spotlight
Emotional Support – What the EAP Can Do for You
What is the EAP and why is it important to me? What is work/life balance and how is that even possible? Is the concept of a “balance” really something that is attainable? If you think about everything with which you were involved last week, each day was different with competing responsibilities both at home and in the workplace. The only balance that seems reasonable are those “hard stops,” such as:
- I must be to work at 8 a.m. and don’t miss the 10:30 a.m. meeting.
- Don’t forget to pick up the kids from school at 3:15 p.m.
- What should I make for dinner?
- I hope I’ll get to bed (at a reasonable time).
Michael McMullen (Forbes, Oct. 3, 2022) explains that all areas of our life are in flux, and the best way to reach what might feel close to balance is to acknowledge three realities:
- Work is a part of life.
- It’s not about doing it right; it’s about living well.
- When you’re worn out, treat yourself.
Your EAP offers confidential counseling (up to 6 free sessions per topic), legal and financial support from experts who are answering your call, and referral packets covering a variety of needs (apartment hunting, elder/childcare, vacation planning, etc.).
New for 2025, GuidanceResources is offering a concierge service to ensure that your first counseling appointment is scheduled for you; you will be offered this service for each request for counseling.
