Workforce Planning
Welcome to the Sate of Montana's Workforce Planning webpage. The purpose of this site is to provide agencies with guidance on workforce planning.
Planning for human resource needs is one of the greatest challenges facing an organization. In order to meet this challenge, a process that provides a structured approach for matching human resources with the anticipated needs of the organization is essential.
Workforce planning provides managers the means of identifying the competencies (skills and behaviors) needed in the workplace - not only in the present, but also in the future - and then selecting and developing that workforce.
"Workforce planning is the strategic alignment of an organization's human capital with its business direction. It is a methodical process of analyzing the current workforce, identifying future workforce needs, establishing the gap between the present and future, and implementing solutions so the organization can accomplish its mission, goals, and objectives." -International Public Management Association - Human Resources
