Elected Officials Salary
In 1995 legislation was passed that bases the salaries of Montana's judges and executive branch elected officials on the average salary of positions with similar titles in the Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, and of the current salaries of these Montana officials. The Department of Administration is required to conduct a survey of the four contiguous states on these salaries prior to June 30 of even numbered years. The results of the survey become effective July 1 of odd numbered years. Officials covered by this legislation are:
