Governor's Awards for Excellence in Performance

The Governor's Award for Excellence in Performance is a statewide award given to outstanding state employees each year.

During his first year in office, Governor Stan Stephens wanted to make Montanans aware of the dedication, professionalism and commitment that he had seen while meeting and working with state employees. Governor Stephens stated: "Whether you're in the private or public sector, people are an organization's most valuable resource. Nothing is accomplished without them."

The first Governor's Awards for Excellence in Performance ceremony was held in February of 1990.

Employee Incentive Award

The Incentive Award Program was created by the November, 1993, special session of the Legislature and became effective on December 23, 1993, when Gov. Racicot signed the bill. The program rewards state employees, groups or teams of employees and non-state employees for documented innovations, that contribute to the efficiency, economy or other improvements of state government by reducing costs or improving the effectiveness of governmental operations. Each agency administers its own program. The agency head grants incentive awards and determines their monetary value. If agency management determines that an idea, innovation, or prototype that has been implemented will result in cost savings or improvements to agency operations, the agency head, may grant an incentive award of up to $17,000. Suggestion guidelines and forms are available on the MINE or by choosing the following.
